I was born in March 1945 into a life of relative comfort and security in England, with middle class values and lifestyle. My father was a career officer in the army which condemned my brother, sister and myself to boarding schools from an early age, from which we all seemed to survive more or less intact. I married, raised children, divorced, married again, divorced again and finally ended up living in Cork, Ireland, with my very best friend and companion and whom I love dearly. |

| I qualified as a chartered accountant
in 1968 and spent the next 22 years working for various companies,
helping them make a lot of money! Then at the age of 45 I was thrown
on the ageist scrap heap being made redundant by my then American bosses.
At least this put money in the bank and enabled me to start my own
accountancy practice which I have run since 1992. I am now semi retired
with only small portfolio of private clients in the UK. In 2007 I undertook
a foundation course in counselling and am currently studying adult psychology.
I have been taking photographs since the age of about 15 when I was given a box Brownie camera by my father. This was followed by a succession of cameras, from a Zeis Icon bellows camera in the 60's to Pentax SLR's in the 70's and 80's. Then came the digital revolution and I succumbed in 1999 with my first 1.2 megapixel camera. Interestingly enough, this camera, an Agfa, took some great photos. After various Sony's I now use Canon EOS 40d & 20D (digital SLRs) and a Pentax S7 (a 7MP pocket camera that I always have with me). I undertook my first professional photo assignment in 2005. Since then I have undertaken a number of portrait sessions and have photographed many public and private events. In 2008 I started Moira O'Brien Photography seriously, receiving intensive training from Bjorn Thomassen which raised my skills to new level and enabled me to gain Licentiate distinction with the Irish Photographic Federation in November 2008. I am available for studio portraits, events, publicity photos, commercial work, product photos and commissions. See www.corkphotographer.net, Redent commissions have included weddings, launches, magazine work and press release and website photos for a professional firm. |
